Job summary

The Police Athletic League, Inc. (PAL) in New York City is seeking Part Time Teachers to develop and implement a broad range of specialties including SEL, dance, sports, STEAM, life skills, literacy, leadership, performing arts, and college/career readiness.

Specialists will oversee their area of expertise while collaborating with staff and site leadership. The Teacher will report to the COMPASS or SONYC Director and be supported by the Content Specialist.

Qualifications

• Excellent classroom management, behavior management, and facilitation skills.
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
• Bi-lingual in Spanish, French, or Chinese preferred.
• A valid NYS Teaching Certificate.
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in education.

Responsibilities

• Foster social and emotional competencies and well-being in a safe, welcoming environment.
• Teach participants fundamentals of specialized activity to build skill and confidence.
• Coordinate and present a culminating performance at the end of the program cycle.
• Be aware of students with IEPs and medical conditions; follow support plans to help the student thrive.
• Respond with time-sensitive mental health services; provide referrals as needed.
• Work cooperatively with staff, teachers, and program leadership.
• Build positive relationships with youth and caretakers; model professional demeanor.
• Attend meetings with staff, caretakers, volunteers, and community residents.
• Interact with caretakers and keep open lines of communication.
