Job summary

Police Athletic League, Inc. in Queens, NY, is seeking Part Time Teachers to develop and implement a broad range of specialties: SEL, dance, sports, STEAM, life skills, literacy, leadership, performing arts, visual arts, and college and career readiness.

You will oversee your area, collaborate with staff and site leadership, and report to the COMPASS or SONYC Director, with 15 hours of orientation and 4 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS Teaching Certificate.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education.
• 2 years classroom teaching experience.
• Bi-lingual in Spanish, French, or Chinese preferred.
• Open to learning and growing. All staff will be learning mental health, SEL, and special needs inclusion skills.

Responsibilities

• Foster social and emotional competencies in a safe, welcoming, inclusive environment.
• Teach fundamentals of specialized activity to build skill level and confidence.
• Coordinate and present a culminating performance at the end of the program cycle.
• Follow support plans for students with IEPs and medical conditions to help them thrive.
• Work cooperatively with Group Leaders, professional staff, teachers, and other program staff.
• Build positive relationships with youth and caretakers and serve as a role model.
