Job summary

Lindenwood University is seeking a Writing Specialist to support students and instructors through classroom writing activities, consultations, and online support at the Writing Center.

The role collaborates with instructors to develop assignments and assists students in person and virtually while at the Writing Center. The position focuses on training materials, mentoring staff, and delivering effective writing support across diverse learners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Prior tutoring or teaching experience.
  • Master’s degree in English or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides feedback on students’ writing assignments via in-person, video chat, or email feedback.
  • Provides intense in-class writing support
  • Develops training materials and a composite of resources for writing instructors; trains and mentors writing specialists and consultants
  • Provides effective student development and learning strategies for working with under-prepared, accommodated, or anxious students
  • Consults with faculty and staff to identify areas for curricular pedagogical enhancement
  • Conducts writing conferences for students
  • Stays current on best practices in writing center pedagogies
  • Provides review, minor editing, and proofreading of instructors’ scholarly articles
  • Embeds within the LMS to support graduate and undergraduate students and instructors
  • Supports campus-wide events and Lindenwood University’s service culture
  • Explains grammar concepts and writing pedagogy to learners
  • Observes writing consultants to ensure quality of service
  • Works with student services and library staff to support academic needs
  • Develops pre-made video tutorials and Canvas Commons resources
  • Tracks appointments and maintains student records in WCOnline for assessment
