Job summary

North Shore Community College is seeking a Part-Time Academic Counselor for Student and Academic Success. The role provides equitable advising to new, returning and transfer students to integrate academic, personal, and career goals.

The counselor works across campus and virtual environments, with duties including one-on-one and group advising, registration events, and navigating academic plans. Campus locations include Danvers and Lynn, with a 20-hour weekly schedule Monday–Friday, 10:00

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or closely related field; 3 years' experience/training in advising, admissions, career development, or program management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating with team members.
• Familiar with using electronic platforms to communicate, assist and evaluate students.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills; able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
• Experience advising diverse populations; CORI/SORI or background check required.

Responsibilities

• Guide students in selecting programs of study and academic pathways aligned with goals.
• Review and interpret placement results for course selection.
• Advise on strategies to meet proficiency requirements for math and communication.
• Develop individualized academic plans using Navigate.
• Assess time management needs and recommend course formats.
• Participate in new student registration events and activities.
• Connect students with college resources and support services.
• Monitor and respond to advising emails and voicemails; document interactions in Navigate.
