Job summary

The City of Columbia, SC is seeking a qualified Parks and Recreation Director to plan, direct, and oversee development, construction, and maintenance of city parks and recreation facilities. The role reports to executive administration and manages programs within department policies, including budgeting and progress reporting.

The incumbent supervises staff, coordinates bids and contracts, ensures safety, and collaborates with consultants, engineers, architects and other agencies to fulfill

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation or closely related field.
• Five (5) years of relevant prior experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs and participates in the development, construction and maintenance of City parks and recreational facilities to meet the recreational needs of the community.
• Supervises division staff; duties include instructing, assigning, reviewing and planning work of others, maintaining standards, coordinating activities and personnel, and handling discipline.
