Overview

Skilled trades work involving construction, structural maintenance, and repair of buildings, grounds, and utilities such as water and sewage systems in an assigned region of the Vermont State Parks System for the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation. An employee in this class may supervise contractors or oversee lower-level maintenance or park seasonal personnel, Park Managers, and/or volunteers on a project basis. Work is performed under the supervision of a Parks Facility Manager.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in shop and field settings, outdoors and indoors. Incumbents must be able to climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs., and work in cramped, damp, or poorly ventilated areas. Manual dexterity and safety precautions are essential. Some evening or overtime work may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.
  • OR High school diploma or equivalent AND both two (2) years or more of vocational training in relevant fields AND one (1) year or more of related work experience.
  • OR High school diploma or equivalent AND both two (2) years or more of work experience as a Park Ranger AND one (1) year or more of related work experience.
