Job summary

The City of Apple Valley, MN is hiring for a Parks Maintenance Worker in the Parks and Recreation Department. The role involves manual labor, equipment operation, repair work, and maintenance of parks, fields, ice rinks, pools, trails, and plantings.

Must be available for extended hours, weekends and emergencies. Essential duties include operating mowing, backhoe, forklift, and snowplow equipment, maintaining irrigation and athletic facilities, caring for lawns and trees, and performing routine

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Class B CDL with tanker endorsement or obtain within 12 months of appointment.
• Valid driver's license with excellent driving record.
• Strong mechanical ability and skills.
• Experience in operation and routine repair of parks maintenance equipment.
• Knowledge or education in greens industry.
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to follow safe work practices according to law and City standards.
• Must comply with DOT/FMCSA drug and alcohol testing requirements.
• Maintenance II: 18 months of municipal parks maintenance experience; CDL with tanker endorsement; ability to work with parks maintenance software.

Responsibilities

• Performs all tasks for the parks maintenance division, including equipment operation and manual labor.
• Operates mowing equipment, forklift, backhoe, and snowplow as needed.
• installs and maintains irrigation systems, athletic fields, ice rinks, playgrounds and park trails.
• Care and maintenance of park lawns, trees, shrubs, and plants including seeding and sodding.
• Mixes and applies chemicals to prevent or control turf, tree, shrub, or plant disease.
• Performs snowplowing, sanding, and salting; maintains public park access.
• Repairs and maintains equipment; welding and lubrication as needed.
• Adheres to safety rules and assists other maintenance divisions as required.
