Job summary

City of Apple Valley is seeking a Parks Maintenance Worker to perform equipment operation, lawn and plant care, irrigation work, and sign construction tasks across parks and facilities. The role requires a CDL, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.

Responsibilities include snow and ice control, routine equipment maintenance, and teamwork with other city divisions. Must be available for extended hours and emergencies as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Class B CDL with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Demonstrated knowledge or education in greens industry.
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a team and follow safety rules.
• DOT/FMCSA drug/alcohol program compliance required.
• Experience with municipal parks maintenance is preferred if applying for Maintenance II.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment for parks maintenance, including mowing, snow plowing, backhoe, and forklift tasks.
• Carry out installation and maintenance of irrigation systems, athletic fields, rinks, playgrounds, and trails.
• Care for lawns, trees, shrubs, and plants; prepare ground for seeding and planting; perform pruning and transplanting.
• Mix and apply chemicals to prevent or control turf and plant diseases.
• Construct, repair and install signs.
• Perform snow and ice control and related equipment maintenance.
• Maintain public access areas, including weed control and tree/shrub management.
• Carry out routine equipment repairs and lubrication.
• Adhere to safety rules and city policies; assist other divisions as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the City.
