Job summary

City of Lenexa is seeking a Parks Facilities Maintenance Technician I to support maintenance of park facilities and operations. This apprentice-level role covers preventive and predictive maintenance, operating equipment, and assisting with repairs under supervision.

Under supervision, you will develop skills in facility upkeep, assist higher-level technicians and seasonal staff, and contribute to safe, welcoming public spaces for residents and visitors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or trade school certification with 2–3 years of facility maintenance experience.
• Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) certification or ability to obtain within two years.
• Class B CDL or ability to obtain within one year.

Responsibilities

• Operate City vehicles, powered equipment and hand tools for maintenance and repairs.
• Assist with construction and repair of park structures and amenities.
• Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and appliance maintenance tasks.
• Monitor and operate pool and fountain filtration and chemical systems.
• Complete daily work orders and maintenance logs.
• Support snow and ice removal operations, including after-hours and weekends.
• Assist with set up and clean-up for special events.
• Inspect and clean playgrounds, shelters and public areas.
• Collaborate with other division staff and assist in other facility maintenance areas as needed to meet operational needs.
• May lead and coordinate seasonal workers under supervision.
