Job summary

The City of Lenexa Parks and Recreation department is seeking an apprentice-level Parks Facilities Maintenance Technician I to perform preventive and predictive maintenance of park facilities, operate equipment, and assist with repairs.

Under close supervision, you will develop skills in facility maintenance and may lead seasonal workers, supporting various trades and maintenance tasks. Starting pay is $21.79–$25.26 per hour with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. OR technical or trade school certification, plus 2-3 years of facility maintenance experience.
• Must have Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) certification or ability to obtain within two years, and Class B CDL or ability to obtain within one year.

Responsibilities

• Operate City vehicles, powered equipment and hand tools for maintenance and repairs.
• Assist with construction and repair of park structures and amenities.
• Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and appliance maintenance tasks.
• Monitor and operate pool and fountain filtration and chemical systems.
• Complete daily work orders and maintenance logs.
• Support snow and ice removal operations, including after-hours and weekends.
• Assist with set up and clean-up for special events.
• Inspect and clean playgrounds, shelters and public areas.
• Collaborate with other division staff and assist in other facility maintenance areas as needed to meet operational needs.
• May lead and coordinate seasonal workers under supervision.
