Job summary

DEPT OF PARKS & RECREATION in New York City seeks a Community Coordinator to lead vibrant volunteer programs at Pelham Bay Park and nearby areas. The role focuses on planning large-scale events, building partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and businesses, and promoting public programs that align with parks priorities.

Responsibilities include coordinating staff, logistics, and safety for 30+ annual events, tracking outcomes and service hours, and preparing reports for the Park Administrator.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or related duties; or
• High school graduation or equivalent and six years of related experience.
• Equivalent combinations allowed with one year of additional experience.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate purchasing, volunteer projects, public programs and community initiatives.
• Plan and oversee 30+ annual volunteer events with 100-200+ participants; manage logistics.
• Manage volunteer registration, waivers, participation records, service hours and outcomes.
• Develop partnerships with corporations, nonprofits, schools, civic groups and community organizations.
• Lead volunteer projects: shoreline cleanups, invasive species removal, trail maintenance and beautification.
• Conduct community outreach and promote volunteer opportunities, meetings and events.
• Track and report program metrics, volunteer participation, and community impact.
• Liaise with Purchasing, Accounting and vendors; coordinate purchase orders and budget reports.
• Create yearly budget with Administrator and manage within budget guidelines.
• Collaborate with Park Administrator and Special Events to plan, implement and evaluate public programming.
• Support park community partners with development, events, outreach, publicity and fundraising.
• Prepare reports and correspondence for the Park Administrator.
