Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is hiring for a Parking Officer in Norfolk, VA. The role involves enforcing university parking regulations, issuing citations, and assisting motorists.

You will support front office operations, monitor lots for maintenance, and help with events and campus gate operations. Availability for nights and weekends is required. Qualifications

  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Identify vehicles in violation of university parking regulations.
  • Issue parking citations, install wheel locks, and provide motorist assistance.
  • Monitor parking lots daily for maintenance issues (potholes, signage).
  • Assist customers with basic account information (balances, permit activity).
  • Provide front office support (issuing passes, answering phones, admin tasks).
  • Install and maintain parking signage; use handheld devices to enter enforcement data.
  • Ensure accuracy of citation information in the mobile system and document violations with photos.
  • Assist with special events (cones, reserved spaces), weekdays and weekends.
  • Assist University Police with campus gate operations.
  • Work rotating shifts (days, nights, weekends, some holidays) in all weather; lift up to 10 pounds.

Job Duties
  • Identify vehicles in violation of University parkingregulations.
  • Issue parking citations, install wheel locks, and providemotorist assistance.
  • Monitor parking lots daily for maintenance issues, includingpotholes and damaged or missing signage.
  • Assist customers with basic account information, includingbalances and permit activity.
  • Provide front office support, including issuing passes,answering phones, and performing administrative tasks.
  • Install and maintain parking signage as needed. Utilizehandheld devices to enter and retrieve vehicle registration andenforcement data.
  • Ensure accuracy of all citation information entered into themobile system and document violations with photographs.
  • Assist with working all special events, including the placementof cones and reserved spaces for events of all sizes, on weekdaysand weekends.
  • Assist University Police with campus gate operations.
  • Work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, andsome holiday's Perform duties in all weather conditions, includingstanding, walking, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Work mandatory overtime to include: working rotating shifts,including days, nights, weekends, and some holidays
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and communicate effectively withstudents, faculty, staff, and the general public.

Salary: $32,000 -$35,500

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires availability for nights andweekends.
