City of Virginia Beach invites you to join Parks & Recreation as a Park Assistant. You will help supervise and maintain major park sites, perform groundskeeping tasks, and assist with event support.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, valid driver's license, ability to work evenings/weekends/holidays, and willingness to pass background checks. Training is provided, and the city offers health benefits, retirement, and a comprehensive time-off package.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1 year related park maintenance experience.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and overtime when needed.
• Ability to operate safely and follow PPE requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist with supervision, operation, and maintenance of major park sites.
• Perform park maintenance duties: trash collection, mowing, edging, painting, cleaning.
• Inspect and clean park facilities and equipment to ensure safety and cleanliness.
• Supervise 1–8 part-time or temporary staff; assist with scheduling and evaluations.
• Coordinate shelter reservations and assist event organizers in park sites.
