City of Virginia Beach is seeking a skilled supervisor to coordinate and lead landscape maintenance teams across outdoor municipal sites. You will oversee construction, patches, repairs, and installations, including turf, concrete, asphalt, and playground projects. Individual will effectively coordinate, supervise and train assigned personnel inand during the performance oflandscape activities includingbutnotlimitedtolandscapeconstruction, concrete and asphalt patches, repairs, removals, andinstalls from scratch.Turf maintenance, litter collection, chemical application andplayground installation, maintenance and repair at various school and municipal sites.
Individual willmaintain and document concrete and asphalt inspections, material orders, scheduling deliveries of materials to the jobs.
Prepareemployeeappraisalreportsanddailyworkreports.
Ensuretheproperapplicationofrequiredsafetystandardsand proper operation and maintenance of relative equipment.
Interpretandenforce rules,regulationsandpolicies.
Tactfully, promptly andeffectively respond tocitizenconcerns.
Prepare written reports, maintain efficient records and inventories, assigned tools and equipment. Assist as needed in the daily performance of assignments.
Providespecialevent supportasneeded.
Work is performed outside in all weather conditions including temperature extremes.
Work schedules may be adjusted seasonally.
Selected candidates must furnish and wear steel-toed safety boots.
Selected candidates must have acurrent and valid Virginia or North Carolina.
Driver’s License (a learner permit is not a valid driver’s license), pass a pre-employment physical and have a satisfactory background check.
As a condition of employment, all employees must attend P&R Connection (Department Orientation). If selected for the position, you will be provided with an approximate training date at the time of hire. Training is held from 8:30am-5:00pm, every other Friday, at the Parks & Recreation Administration Building. When an exemption is permittable, a hybrid version of the training is available, but will require training attendance on a weekend.

In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate for this position will have experience listed in the preferences below. Candidates with the preferred experience should ensure the information is provided in the application.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED plus two (2) years’ experience, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity, in landscape maintenance, beautification, park or public lands construction and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination. Successful completion of pre-employment physical. May require a Commercial driver’s license and/or pesticide certification.

All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
