Job summary

New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation is seeking a Park Worker 3 to perform and supervise maintenance activities, operate on-site water and sewer systems, and assist in emergencies. The role includes supervising seasonal staff, managing inventories, and maintaining facilities and grounds.

Applicants must meet multiple qualification pathways, possess a valid driver’s license, and obtain required certifications within probation. Daytime, weekend, and evening work is required.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility.
• OR – One year of experience in law enforcement or security; firefighting; EMS; environmental education; natural resources; historic preservation or interpretation; landscaping or grounds maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform and supervise maintenance activities, including semi-skilled maintenance and repair and operating shop machinery.
• Operate and maintain on-site drinking water and sanitary sewer systems, take readings, samples, and perform maintenance.
• Assist in emergency situations and work with patrons to minimize problems.
• Supervise seasonal employees and provide training as needed.
• Complete the annual inventory report and manage item locations and conditions.
• Maintain buildings, grounds and trails; assist in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical repairs; operate various equipment.
• Obtain quotes for materials, equipment, and services.
• Maintain records including health reports, vehicle logs, AEDs, fire extinguishers, and timekeeping.
