Job summary

The City of Durham is seeking a Grounds Maintenance position within Durham Parks and Recreation. The role focuses on keeping parks and facilities clean, safe, and well-maintained, supporting community amenities and events, and performing seasonal tasks as required.

Hours are typically Monday–Friday with some evenings and weekends; the position requires a valid NC driver’s license and readiness to work in various weather conditions. A pesticide license is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required (GED/HiSet/TASC).
• Two years of maintenance experience related to grounds or facilities.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and maintains grounds, including plant beds, trees, shrubs, mowing, trimming, and applying fertilizers/chemicals.
• Maintains and repairs fields, facilities, park amenities, and equipment.
• Operates commercial mowing and landscaping equipment (mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers).
• Performs turf/athletic field maintenance and uses related maintenance equipment.
