Job summary

The City of Plano’s Parks and Recreation department seeks a Park Maintenance Crew Leader to guide a forestry team in parks, trails, and public spaces. You will oversee pruning, removals, and hazard mitigation to protect the urban canopy and promote public safety.

You’ll operate chainsaws, wood chippers, and aerial lifts, supervising staff and coordinating with residents. A valid driver’s license and arboriculture experience are required.

Qualifications

• Experience in arboriculture, forestry, or professional tree care.
• Strong knowledge of tree pruning and removal techniques.
• Experience operating forestry equipment.
• Ability to work safely outdoors and perform physical tasks.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, lead, train, mentor, and direct a forestry team in pruning/removal of large trees across parks and trails.
• Perform professional tree pruning, removals, and hazard mitigation per industry standards.
• Operate forestry equipment: chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, stump grinders.
• Train young trees to promote canopy health.
• Inspect trees for disease, defects, and safety hazards.
• Respond to storm damage and emergency tree situations.
• Support city forestry initiatives and tree preservation.
