Job summary

City of Detroit is seeking a Foreman for Forestry and Landscape within the General Services Department. The role oversees crews performing pruning, planting, spraying, and general landscape maintenance on streets and parks.

Candidates should have at least a high school diploma, 2 years of related horticulture experience, and 1 year of supervisory experience. CDL-B, medical examiner certification, and pesticide applicator certification are required.

Qualifications

• High School graduation or GED achievement.
• Two years of experience caring for and cultivating trees and shrubs including pruning, spraying, planting and landscaping.
• One year of experience in a supervisory capacity.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a moderately large group of workers removing, planting, transplanting, moving, pruning, spraying, cultivating and caring for trees and shrubs.
• Perform forestry related tasks as assigned by supervisors.
• Assigns work and instructs crew about forestry techniques.
• Ensure safety precautions with regards to workers, the public and adjacent property.
• Instructs subordinates in preparation of spraying solutions.
• Apply pesticides.
• Inspect work in process and upon completion.
• Monitor employee schedules and attendance.
• Transfer workers and tools between activities.
• Monitor and manage crew equipment and vehicles.
• Maintain daily work records of projects and forestry/tree service requests.
