Job summary

Nycenet in New York City is seeking a Parent Coordinator to engage with parents, school staff and community groups, creating a welcoming school environment. You will identify parent and community issues and collaborate with the principal to address them promptly.

You will facilitate parent meetings, connect families to services, and support the parent association with governance activities while remaining responsive to diverse populations and school needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus two years of community work experience preferred; or Associate’s degree plus four years; or high school diploma plus six years.
• Familiarity with the New York City public school system preferred.
• Bilingual ability helpful where there is a significant non-English speaking population.

Responsibilities

• Increases parent involvement in the school by working closely with school, parent and community organizations.
• Serves as facilitator for parent and school community concerns and issues including policies or facilities.
• Conducts outreach to engage parents in their children’s education.
• Convenes regular parent meetings and events around topics of key concerns to parents.
• Attends parent meetings with the principal, where appropriate.
• Works with the school parent association to establish by-laws, elections and governance per policy.
• Serves as a school liaison to Central and Field-based parent support staff.
• Maintains contact with community organizations providing services to the school’s educational program.
• Organizes back-to-school and other events to increase parental and community involvement.
