Job summary

The New York City Department of Education is seeking a Community Associate to support outreach efforts, maintain partnerships with Parent Teachers’ Associations, and engage with the local and wider community to strengthen school programs.

The role focuses on coordinating community development activities, expanding partnerships, and assisting in communications with parents, partners, and staff. The position is a 12-month, 35-hour-per-week assignment with varied hours to meet school needs.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or related activities.
• Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work with students, parents and school staff.

Responsibilities

• Maintains computer-based record-keeping systems with community partner information and contacts.
• Coordinates contact with parents and the school community to elicit support and participation in activities.
• Increases and develops relationships with community-based organizations and facilitates meetings and events.
• Develops a wide range of community contacts to volunteer, partner, or provide resources to the school.
• Maintains ongoing contact with community organizations involved with services to support educational programs.
