Job summary

Walmart Inc. seeks a technically strong Manager, Automation Engineering – Parcel Strategy & Design to advance the automation strategy across Walmart’s parcel network.

You’ll translate network requirements into material flows, layouts, and system-level designs that improve throughput and reduce cost. The role spans data analysis, vendor discussions, engineering drawings, and cross-functional collaboration with teams across Operations, Design, Deployment, and Engineering.

Qualifications

• Experience in automation engineering, material-handling system design, or related technical field.
• Experience developing or evaluating automation solutions in distribution, fulfillment, or logistics environments.
• Knowledge of material-handling equipment and automation technologies such as conveyors, sortation, scanning, robotics, or automated transport.
• Ability to develop layouts, process flows, and system-level designs with clear documentation.

Responsibilities

• Develop parcel automation strategies, concepts, and designs across fulfillment centers and future parcel-network nodes.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and benchmark solutions across ecommerce, logistics, and automation industries.
• Create layouts, capacity models, and engineering analyses to compare solutions by throughput, space, cost, and scalability.
• Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate equipment capabilities and development roadmaps.
• Improve engineering standards, design requirements, and reusable concepts based on lessons learned.
• Use data analysis and engineering economics to support business cases and technology selection.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to develop integrated solutions and resolve engineering challenges.
• Support pilots and communicate technical recommendations through engineering docs and executive materials.
