Job summary

HARNETT AREA RURAL TRANSIT SYSTEMS (HARTS) is hiring transit drivers to transport elderly and disabled citizens to medical appointments, workshops, daycare, and county programs. Responsibilities include following routes, assisting passengers, and maintaining records and vehicles.

Hours are 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday–Friday with weekend shifts; retirement benefits are available. Driver must maintain a valid NC license and pass safety checks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license is required.
• CPR certification is desired.
• First Aid certification is desired.

Responsibilities

• Inspect vehicles prior to driving.
• Drive and operate vehicles on assigned schedule and route.
• Monitor and report status and needs of the vehicles for maintenance and safe operation.
• Maintain first aid supplies and operate fire suppression equipment on the vehicles.
• Record mileage, number of passengers, times, and other required information.
• Assist passengers with seat belts and with getting in and out of vehicles; operate wheelchair lifts.
• Ensure vehicle cleanliness and fuel as needed.
• Ensure passengers arrive at destinations on time.
• Handle emergency call-backs and flexible irregular schedules.
