Job summary

Craven County Government is seeking a CARTS agency transit driver to operate vehicles on scheduled routes, transporting passengers to medical facilities, groceries, and other destinations within the service area. The role includes time and mileage records, passenger assistance, and vehicle cleanliness.

The driver must possess a valid NC driver's license with at least five years of driving experience, no recent points on record, and pass background checks and drug testing.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid NC driver's license and five years driving experience required.
• No points on driving record in the last 3 years; background and driving history checks required.
• Pre/post trip inspections and maintaining vehicle cleanliness are expected.

Responsibilities

• Drive assigned CARTS route to transport passengers to various locations including medical facilities and groceries.
• Maintain records of time at stops, passenger counts, and mileage for payroll and reporting.
• Disinfect interior surfaces as needed and ensure seating and accessibility equipment are clean.
• Assist ambulatory passengers and those using wheelchairs, securing wheelchair and passenger with vehicle restraints.
• Perform vehicle maintenance coordination and drive to maintenance/repair locations.
• Follow de-escalation techniques with aggressive individuals and maintain safety on the bus.
