City of Suffolk’s Fire & Rescue Department seeks highly skilled Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics to perform advanced life support, fire suppression, and hazardous materials response. The role includes vehicle operation, patient assessment, and rapid transport to treatment facilities.

Graduation from high school or GED is required, with Firefighter II, HAZMAT ops, EVOC, and Paramedic certifications desirable.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED, and successful completion of probationary period from a certified Fire Fighter Recruit Academy or minimum 3 years' experience in firefighting and emergency response, or equivalent training/experience.
• Must hold or have ability to acquire by reciprocity Firefighter II; HAZMAT operations; Class III EVOC; and Paramedic.
• Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of department mini academy and Driver Pump Operator certification within one year.

Responsabilités

• Responds to emergency calls for fire suppression, medical assistance, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergencies; follows dispatcher instructions.
• Maintains readiness and stock for emergency response; tests hoses/pumps; reloads equipment; prepares apparatus for subsequent emergencies.
• Provides life-saving medical care including ACLS/PALS; stabilizes patients; records vital signs; coordinates with hospital facilities.
• Operates a variety of fire/emergency vehicles and equipment; determines best route to incidents; drives safely in various conditions.
• Inspects buildings for pre-fire plans and hazards; performs public safety duties and assists law enforcement as needed.
• Drives and maintains equipment; conducts public safety education and community outreach.
