Job summary

City of Suffolk is seeking a skilled firefighter/paramedic to perform advanced emergency response, fire suppression, rescue operations, and hazardous materials containment. The role includes patient care, equipment maintenance, and training responsibilities at the fire station under supervision of a Battalion Chief.

Requirements include high school diploma or GED and Virginia certifications; ACLS/PALS are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must hold or be able to acquire Virginia certifications: Firefighter II; HAZMAT operations; EVOC; Paramedic.
• ACLS/PALS certifications preferred or required.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire suppression, medical, hazmat, and rescue calls.
• Inspects and maintains equipment and station readiness.
• Operates a wide range of fire/emergency vehicles and apparatus.
• Provides advanced life support and patient care at scenes.
• Assists with training, reporting, and record-keeping.
• Performs pre-fire plans, fire inspections, and building assessments.
