**Job Summary:**

This program is intended for newly licensed Paramedics. It emphasizes additional didactic and critical care exposure, with hands-on hospital-based care of the acutely ill patient. While the primary focus of the clinical experience is the Adult ED, clinical experiences in other intensive care settings, including Trauma, Medical, and Neuro ICUs, are included to promote a better understanding of the continuum of care.

The Paramedic will independently work off assessment skills to activate patient care protocols and deliver patient care within the Tennessee paramedic scope of practice, aligned with Vanderbilt's protocols. Paramedics are responsible for effective communication to ensure safe and quality patient care during transport and handover.

**SHIFT REQUIREMENTS:**

Our paramedics work three 12-hour shifts per week in the emergency room. We currently have openings for Day shift (7a-7p) and Night shift (7p-7a), which include evening, night, and weekend layered shift differentials. Weekend shifts are every other Saturday and Sunday.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:**

  1. Actively participate with the healthcare team to provide direct patient care.
  2. Transport patients via various modes, providing ALS and Critical Care management for all ages.
  3. Respond to emergency requests within Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt-sponsored, or other contracted events.
  4. Utilize problem-solving models to resolve patient issues and implement solutions with the healthcare team.
  5. Identify patient and unit problems, find solutions, and follow through on implementation.
  6. Communicate patient handovers effectively to the healthcare team.
  7. Perform additional duties as assigned.

**TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:**

  1. Ventilator Management (Novice): Fundamental proficiency in ventilator management, generally under supervision.
  2. Critical Thinking (Novice): Demonstrates clarity, accuracy, and sound evidence in task completion.
  3. Airway Establishing (Novice): Fundamental proficiency in airway management, generally under supervision.
  4. Medication Management (Novice): Fundamental proficiency in medication management, including assessment and review of medication histories.
  5. Assessing, Intervening & Stabilizing Patients (Novice): Fundamental proficiency in patient assessment and stabilization, generally under supervision.
