**Job Summary:**

Independently works off assessment skills to activate patient care protocols to deliver patient care within the Tennessee paramedic scope of practice within the defined Vanderbilt paramedic scope of practice. Responsible for triage care in the field as well as the Emergency Department. Responsible for effective communication to ensure safe and quality patient care in paramedic team, transport and handover.

**Department Summary:**

LifeFlight Ground EMS started with a single ambulance in the fall of 2011, and after several expansions now includes a fleet of 21 ALS-equipped ground ambulances operating from four locations in Middle Tennessee: Nashville, Wilson County (Lebanon), Coffee County (Tullahoma), and Montgomery County (Clarksville). These ambulances focus on interfacility transfers and discharges from Vanderbilt-affiliated medical facilities, with the ability to support non-Vanderbilt facilities as well.

**Shifts:** Variable (12-hour shifts) including some night, weekend, and holiday shifts:

  • 6a-6p
  • 7a-7p
  • noon-midnight
  • 6p-6a
  • 7p-7a

**Fulltime:** 36 hours with overtime available. Shift differentials apply to nights and weekends.

**Sign-On Bonus Requirements:**

The sign-on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past twelve months. The bonus is only available for full-time positions.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:**

  1. Actively participate with other members of the healthcare team to provide direct patient care.
  2. Transport patients via various modes of transportation while providing quality ALS and Critical Care management to all ages.
  3. Respond to emergency requests within Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt-sponsored, or other contracted events.
  4. Utilize problem-solving models to independently resolve patient problems and follow through with HCT to implement solutions.
  5. Identify patient and unit problems, find solutions, and follow through to implement them.
  6. Effectively communicate patient handover to the healthcare team.
  7. The responsibilities listed are a general overview and additional duties may be assigned.

**TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:**

  • Ventilator Management (Novice): Fundamental proficiency to demonstrate ventilator management in moderate difficulty applications under direction.
  • Critical Thinking (Novice): Demonstrates clarity, accuracy, and sound evidence in completing tasks and projects.
  • Airway Establishing (Novice): Fundamental proficiency in airway establishing in moderate difficulty applications under direction.
  • Medication Management (Novice): Fundamental proficiency in medication management, including assessment, review, and recognizing problems.
  • Assessing, Intervening & Stabilizing Patients (Novice): Fundamental proficiency in patient assessment, intervention, and stabilization in moderate difficulty applications under direction.
