Role Overview

As a Paramedic at MercyOne, you will provide professional care for acutely ill and injured patients, utilizing your certification and skills in both pre-hospital and hospital environments, guided by MercyOne Ambulance protocols or direct medical control.

Essential Functions

• Assess patients with various medical conditions or injuries.
• Prepare patient care reports within 24 hours of transport.
• Triage, prioritize, and develop a care plan based on patient needs.
• Evaluate and adjust the care plan as necessary, documenting all findings and interventions.
• Implement interventions according to protocols and document patient responses.
• Prepare and maintain equipment and supplies, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
• Operate vehicles safely to perform duties.
• Provide EMS standby services at events.
• Assist with station duties as needed.

Marginal Functions

• Mentor EMS students.
• Provide patient care in the Emergency Department or critical care units when not on ambulance duty.
• Assist with difficult peripheral line insertions for inpatients.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Current Paramedic certification in Iowa required.
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required or obtained within specified timeframes.
• Proof of Mandatory Reporter training within three months of hire.
• Valid driver’s license and meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
• Emergency Vehicle Operations training within six months of hire.
