Job summary

GNY Insurance Group in New York City seeks a Paralegal to support a team of attorneys in insurance defense. You will draft and respond to Bills of Particulars, discovery demands and Notices to Admit, and manage subpoenas and court communications.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of defense litigation discovery experience, NY ECF familiarity, and strong organizational and communication skills. Hybrid role at the New York headquarters with a competitive salary and bonus eligibility.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of insurance personal injury defense litigation support experience.
• Paralegal certificate or degree preferred.
• Familiarity with NY Electronic Court filing system (NY ECF) required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and other databases (Trial Works and ImageRight experience a plus). Notary Public for NY a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys with information gathering and research for cases, including client details such as employment, financial, and medical records as well as legal documentation.
• Draft and proofread legal documents including complaints, discovery requests, motions, pretrial agreements, subpoenas, impleaders and appeal.
• Communicate with court officials and opposing counsel on behalf of clients and attorneys.
• Manage attorney calendar for EBTs of non-party witnesses and schedule site inspections as needed.
• Manage discovery aspects of cases with minimal attorney oversight and prepare responses and demands for attorney review.
• Identify what is needed for different types of litigation and obtain it (contracts, work logs, etc.).
• Help attorneys prepare for trial, arbitration, depositions and other court appearances.
• Conduct research in legal publications and databases to find laws and court decisions.

The candidate will be responsible for various discovery related tasks including, but not limited to, drafting and responding to demands for Bills of Particulars, Discovery and Inspection and Notices to Admit. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills so as to cultivate a strong working relationship with the company’s insureds and ensure the timely completion of all assigned tasks.### **Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*** Assist attorneys with information gathering and research for cases, including client details such as employment, financial, and medical records as well as legal documentation* Draft and proofread legal documents including complaints, discovery requests, motions, pretrial agreements, subpoenas, impleaders and appeal.* Communicate with court officials and opposing counsel on behalf of clients and attorneys* Manage attorney calendar as it pertains to the scheduling of EBTs of non-party witnesses pursuant to drafted subpoenas and occasional scheduling dates for site inspection.* Manage discovery aspects of case with minimal attorney oversight and to prepare responses and demands for attorney review.* Ability to determine what is needed for different types of litigation and obtain it (i.e., contracts, work logs, log books, etc.)* Know and understand new rules regarding discovery responses and verifications* Help attorneys prepare for trial, arbitration, depositions and other court appearances* Conduct research in legal publications and databases to find laws and court decisions pertaining to current cases* Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.## Qualifications### **Education and Experience:*** Minimum of 5 years of insurance personal injury defense litigation support experience required.* Minimum of 2 years recent experience handling discovery responses for complex litigation claims required.* Paralegal certificate / degree preferred.* Familiarity with NY Electronic Court filing system required.* Proficient in Microsoft Office and other databases (Trial Works and ImageRight experience a plus).* Notary Public for the State of New York a plus.### **Skills:*** Demonstrate ethical conduct and ensure client confidentiality.* Outstanding attention to detail and strong time management and organizational skills* Ability to develop customer relationships.* Demonstrated ability to resolve problems and develop action plans.* Must exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.* Ability to lead and facilitate team meetings.The salary range for this role is $54,900 - $110,200. The listed annual salary range posted for this position is subject to change and may vary depending on performance, education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, demonstrated proficiency in the competencies required for the role and business needs. Base pay is just one component of GNY’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards include eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus based on performance.
