Job summary

The New York office of Hall Booth Smith, PC is seeking an experienced litigation paralegal for complex insurance defense matters. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience with Federal and State rules, excellent communication, and strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities include drafting pleadings and discovery, case assessment, managing documents, and coordinating with experts, witnesses, and clients.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of complex insurance defense litigation experience.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State Rules.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work in a high-paced environment and take initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys in complex state and federal cases from initial pleadings through trial.
  • Perform initial case assessments to determine further document discovery.
  • Draft pleadings, scheduling orders, and motions for state and federal court.
  • Draft discovery requests and responses and prepare voluminous records for production.
  • Interpret and summarize medical records and bills.
  • Prepare subpoenas for records.
  • Effectively communicate with experts, insurance adjusters, witnesses, clients, and opposing counsel.
  • Schedule meetings, depositions, and mediations.
  • Assist with jury selection and witness preparation for trial.
  • Meet a billing requirement of 140 hours per month.
  • Assist with preparation of trial notebooks and exhibits.

Specific responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
  • Assist attorney(s) in complex state and federal cases from initial pleadings through trial;

  • Draft pleadings, scheduling orders, and motions for state and federal court;
  • Draft discovery requests and responses to include the preparation of voluminous records for production and drafting of privilege logs;
  • Interpret and summarize medical records and bills;
  • Prepare subpoenas for records;
  • Effectively communicate with experts, insurance adjusters, witnesses, clients, and opposing counsel;
  • Schedule meetings, depositions, and mediations;
  • Assist with jury selection and witness preparation for trial;
  • Meet a billing requirement of 140 hours per month: and
  • Assist with preparation of trial notebooks and exhibits.
