Tacoma Public Schools seeks an Education Support Professional to assist certificated teachers in classrooms serving students with a broad range of disabilities. This role provides academic interventions and daily living support, aligning with IEP goals and district procedures.

Requires General Paraeducator Certificate, 28 hours of FCS training within specified timelines, and 72 credits or ParaPro/AA. Benefits are included with 183 work days per year; hours are 6.5 on site with a 30-minute lunch.

Qualifications

• Completion of state-mandated General Paraeducator Certificate.
• 28 hours of Fundamental Course of Study (FCS) training within 4 months of hire and the remaining 2 days within 6 months.
• Associate degree or 72 credits or passing state test to demonstrate knowledge and ability to assist in instruction for students with disabilities.
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to be trained within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction to students individually or in small groups per teacher direction; supports students with disabilities and assists in creating a safe learning environment.
• Assists with self-care activities and daily living tasks, including feeding, dressing and toileting as needed.
• Supervises students during meals, bus loading/unloading, and classroom activities to ensure safety and participation.
• Records student progress and maintains communication with teacher, program administrator, and parents to support IEP goals and progress.
