San Angelo ISD Maintenance in San Angelo, Texas is hiring a Painter. Under general supervision, you will apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to interior and exterior surfaces across the district.

This is a 12-month, non-exempt position reporting to the Paint Foreman. The job requires one year of painting experience or training, along with a high school diploma or GED and a valid Texas driver's license.

  • Paint surfaces with brushes or rollers and apply finishes.
  • Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
  • Set up scaffolding or ladders as needed.
  • Receive and complete work orders; deliver supplies.
  • Inspect for needed repairs and report to supervisor.
  • Maintain inventory of tools and assist with materials.

Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Painter

EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-exempt

REPORTS TO: Paint Foreman

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:12 months

HOURLY SALARY RANGE: Minimum $16.84, Midpoint $21.05, Maximum $25.26

Primary Purpose:

Under general supervision, apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surface, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the district.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

High school diploma or GED, preferred

Valid Texas driver's license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in painting trade

Ability to properly apply paints

Knowledge of and ability to mix paint to match colors

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Ability to work independently

Experience:

One year experience and/or training with clear driving record

Major Responsibilities:

Maintenance and Repair

  • Smooth and prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint.
  • Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler.
  • Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings.
  • Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.
  • Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers, and apply paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects.
  • Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
  • Erect scaffolding or set up ladder to perform tasks above ground level.
  • Pick up and deliver painting supplies to sites; maintain delivery records.
  • Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection procedures.
  • Prepare all painted signs required by the district.
  • Receive and complete work orders.
  • Service and maintain evaporative coolers.
  • Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Work irregular hours as needed.

Safety

  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
  • Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.

  • Participate in professional learning, training programs, staff meetings, and special events as assigned.

Communication

  • Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
  • Articulate the district’s mission and goals to the community and solicit community support.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Brush, roller, striping machine, taping and masking equipment, spray equipment, sand and water blaster, air compressor, dry wall tools and equipment, hand tools, ladder, scaffolding, district vehicle
  • Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and tight and enclosed spaces
  • Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive hand motions, wrist flexion/extension, grasping/squeezing, overhead reaching; frequent driving
  • Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
  • Environment: Work outside and inside; on slippery or uneven surfaces; on ladders and scaffolding; around machinery and moving parts; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, fumes, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration; frequent districtwide travel; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions
