Job summary

Amarillo ISD is seeking a Painter Assistant to support painting work from surface preparation to interior and exterior finishes across AISD campuses.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED (preferred), a clear Texas driver’s license, and the ability to follow safety procedures and read blueprints. The position is full-time and onsite at AISD facilities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate filler.
• Paint surfaces using brushes, spray gun, rollers to achieve required effects; stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
• Engage in maintenance of interior and exterior AISD campuses.
• Drywall patch and repair and other preparatory work on surface imperfections.
• Utilize sanders, spray guns, and sanding blocks to complete quality work.
• Graffiti removal.
• Erect scaffolding, set up ladders or use hoists for tasks above ground level.
• Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.
• Follow safety procedures and lifting techniques.
• Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely.
• Handle and dispose of paint and chemicals per procedures.
• Comply with district policies and Educator Code of Ethics.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education/Certification
  High School Diploma or GED - preferred
• Licensure
  Clear and valid Texas drivers license
• Special Knowledge/Skills
  Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in painting trade
  Ability to properly apply paints/ Mix, match, and apply paint, varnish, enamel, and other finishes.
  Ability to estimate materials and time required to complete various tasks.
  Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to work cooperatively with others.
  Ability to work independently and be detail oriented
  Ability to read blueprints and schematics correctly

Work Conditions

• Tools/Equipment Used: Painting and drywall tools and equipment including brush, roller, spray equipment sand and water blaster; small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; light truck or van
• Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
• Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
• Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
• Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel; maintain emotional control under stress

Minimum Experience

1 year experience in painting field- preferred

Major Responsibilities And Duties

• Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve required effects. Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
• Engage in the maintenance and upkeep of the interior and exterior of AISD campuses.
• Drywall patch and repair and other preparatory work on surface imperfections.
• Utilize sanders, spray guns, sanding blocks, etc. in order to complete quality work.
• Graffiti removal.
• Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level.
• Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing.
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Maintain equipment to insure proper performance.
• Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
• Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
