Primary Purpose: Assist skilled Painter in all phases of work associated with the painting trade including surface preparation, graffiti removal, and interior and exterior painting.
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED – preferred
Licensure: Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in painting trade
- Ability to properly apply paints, mix, match, and apply paint, varnish, enamel, and other finishes
- Ability to estimate materials and time required to complete various tasks
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to work cooperatively with others
- Ability to work independently and be detail oriented
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics correctly
Minimum Experience: 1 year experience in painting field – preferred
Work Conditions
- Tools/Equipment Used: Painting and drywall tools and equipment including brush, roller, spray equipment, sand and water blaster; small hand tools, power tools, measuring tools; light truck or van
- Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
- Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching; frequent driving
- Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
- Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; districtwide travel; maintain emotional control under stress
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate filler, tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings.
- Paint surfaces using brushes, spray gun, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve required effects; stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
- Engage in the maintenance and upkeep of interior and exterior of AISD campuses.
- Drywall patch and repair and other preparatory work on surface imperfections.
- Utilize sanders, spray guns, sanding blocks, etc. to complete quality work.
- Graffiti removal.
- Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level.
- Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques, including lifting and climbing.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Maintain equipment to insure proper performance.
- Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish and other chemicals according to established procedures.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
