Primary Purpose
Under general supervision, apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the district. To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma preferred
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Meet district vehicle driver eligibility requirement.
- Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in painting trade
- Ability to match & apply texture
- Ability to mix & match paint
- Ability to patch wall surfaces
- Ability to paint & finish wood & metal doors
- Ability to determine proper types of paints, primers, sealers, & finish to apply for excellent results
- Ability to finish fine wood cabinets & furniture
- Ability to strip & re-finish doors, cabinets, & furniture
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to work independently
- Minimum of seven (7) years of successful experience in painting, remodeling, maintenance and/or new construction
Major Responsibilities & Duties
- Demonstrate acceptable work habits including teamwork, initiative and dependability.
- Report to work on time each day.
- Be able to work without direct supervision.
- Perform the painting duties necessary to maintain in good repair building casework, walls, doors, door & window frames.
- Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings.
- Stripe fire lanes & parking lots.
- Use a variety of painter's hand tools and equipment.
- Use a variety of power painters, texture, & spray guns.
- Smooth and prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint.
- Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler.
- Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.
- Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers, and apply paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects.
- Erect scaffolding or set up ladder to perform tasks above ground level.
- Detect needed repairs on buildings, ground, and equipment by following established inspection procedures.
- Prepare all painted signs required by the district.
- Maintain accurate records of material and labor used.
- Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Select materials necessary for the work.
- Prepare cabinets for finishing (sanding & filling).
- Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as needed basis.

Special Conditions
Hours shall be Monday through Thursday; 2:30 PM to 1:30 AM, with a one-hour lunch & two fifteen minute breaks. This equals an equivalent of 261 calendar days.
