Job summary

Amtrak in Depew, NY is seeking a Passenger Engineer Trainee to join our 24/7 operations. You will learn to operate locomotives and trains in accordance with federal regulations and corporate policies, maintaining alertness and clear communication with fellow crew members and other personnel responsible for safe and efficient train movement.

The program includes 8–10 weeks of training at Amtrak’s Training Center in Wilmington, DE, followed by extensive on-the-job instruction for the Crew Base.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or GED required.
• Some work experience demonstrating alertness, awareness and clear verbal communication.
• If selected, complete Engineer Training: 8–10 weeks in Wilmington, DE with on-the-job training.
• Class 1 Train Service Engineers may be paid per agreement; FRA/DOT requirements apply.

Responsibilities

• Consistently and safely operate locomotives and trains in compliance with regulations and policies.
• Operate equipment across a 24/7 transportation environment, maintaining vigilance and situational awareness.
• Think and function independently with clear verbal communication to crew and other personnel.
