Job summary

Amtrak in Florence, SC seeks a Passenger Conductor Trainee to support train operations, assist passengers, and help ensure safety across on‑board and yard duties. The role requires flexibility, strong communication, and the ability to work in a dynamic, safety‑driven environment.

New hires undergo seven to eight weeks of comprehensive training in Wilmington, Delaware, before joining the extra board. This position is unionized and requires availability for extended shifts, nights, weekends, and

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Two (2) years of full‑time verifiable work experience and/or college coursework (combination accepted).
• Must live within a 2‑hour commute of the Crew Base.
• Ability to lift 50lbs and meet FRA vision, color vision, and hearing standards as specified in 49 CFR 242.

Responsibilities

• Support safe, efficient train operations by assisting the Conductor with train movements and safety rules.
• Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting passengers and addressing service disruptions.
• Perform yard operations and train assembly tasks, including moving between rail cars and connecting/disconnecting equipment.
• Communicate clearly with passengers, crew, and dispatchers to support operations and service delivery.
• Maintain documentation of delays, incidents, and mechanical concerns.
