Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking a dynamic Climbing Arborist Trainee to join our outdoor team in the Gurnee, IL area. The role focuses on climbing, learning pruning and removal techniques, and growing safety skills on every job site.

You’ll receive on-the-job training, complete required safety courses and gain hands-on experience with tree care, equipment operation, and industry standards while advancing at your own pace.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire.
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and be paid to do so.
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills.
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients, including pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees and maintain tools and equipment.
• Growth and advancement depend on performance.
