Job summary

First Merchants offers a 12-week paid Summer Internship Program for energetic college students. Interns will gain hands-on experience in commercial banking, credit risk assessment, and portfolio management while working on meaningful projects and receiving mentorship from experienced professionals.

Participants will engage in loan committees, client calls, and relationship management activities, with opportunities to network with senior leadership during the program.

Qualifications

• Full-time Bachelor degree-seeking student (or higher).
• Available to work 40 hours per week from May 17 to August 6, 2027.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Willing to travel periodically across First Merchants footprint, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Learn roles within Commercial Banking and the products/services bank provides to commercial customers.
• Gain skills in assessing credit risk, analyzing financial data, portfolio management, and the credit decision process.
• Learn the commercial banking sales cycle, relationship banking, and whole-bank selling techniques.
• Attend loan committees, partner with relationship managers on prospecting, and participate in client calls.
