Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is offering a 10+ week Construction Safety Internship for students pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, or related fields. Interns gain real-world, hands-on safety experience while supporting site safety programs.

The program emphasizes safety toolbox talks, site procedures, onboarding, PPE logistics, and incident investigations, with compensation at $28 per hour for Southern California locations.

Qualifications

• Sophomore or Junior standing and pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, or related major.
• Strong interest in pursuing a career in Construction Safety.
• General knowledge of safety and construction principles/processes.
• Willingness to relocate and/or commute for the internship duration.
• Reliable transportation to and from the assigned jobsite.

Responsibilities

• Support and monitor safety efforts of subcontractors and McCarthy employees, conducting Toolbox meetings weekly and enforcing safety guidelines.
• Ensure that the procedures outlined in the Site-Specific Safety Manual are implemented on the project site.
• Assist with issuance of new hire safety documents and onboard new employees and subcontractors into the McCarthy safety culture.
• Coordinate with project supervision to ensure PPE/safety materials and first aid supplies are available and posted.
• Participate in investigating accidents and injuries, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective measures. Support the conduction of safety/health inspections, coordinating responses and compliance reports.

Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Public Health (Sophomore/Junior standing)
