Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC offers a Nurse Summer Externship for senior nursing students. The nine-week paid program runs May 31, 2027 to July 31, 2027, with 40 hours per week and three 12-hour shifts weekly, plus specialty education sessions and shadowing under a nurse preceptor to boost clinical skills for licensure as an RN.

Eligibility includes final-year students with expected graduation in Dec 2027 or May 2028, current ADN/BSN enrollment, and BLS certification

Qualifications

• Senior nursing students entering final year of nursing school.
• Currently enrolled in ADN or BSN program.
• Must have BLS certification (AHA BCLS or Red Cross BLS).
• Must commit to 40 hours per week for nine weeks.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN supervision.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and peri-procedure care.
• Perform clinical procedures under supervision.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
• Ensure accurate, timely communication of patient information.
• Provide age-appropriate care per standards.
