Job summary

Advocate Health’s Nurse Summer Externship Program offers a nine-week paid opportunity for senior nursing students to gain hands-on experience while working with experienced teams across the Wake area. It prepares students for transition to licensed Registered Nurses within a large academic health system.

Eligibility includes final-year nursing students, ADN/BSN enrollment, and required certifications. The program runs May 31, 2027 – July 31, 2027, with an application deadline of November 6, 2026.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the implementation of the nursing process by providing direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Assists with admissions, transfers, discharges, and pre- and post-procedure care.
• Performs assigned clinical procedures under appropriate supervision.
• Creates and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, teammates, and visitors.
• Ensures accurate, timely, and effective communication of patient information.
• Provides age-appropriate care consistent with organizational and unit-based standards.
