Job summary

WellSpan Health in Chambersburg invites nursing students to apply for the Summer 2027 Nurse Externship at Chambersburg Hospital. The program runs May 17, 2027 through July 10, 2027 and includes two 4‑week unit experiences. Externs commit to a 36‑hour work week and rotate shifts under an experienced RN preceptor.

Assignments span Medical/Surgical, Emergency, Critical Care, and other units, providing hands‑on clinical exposure while maintaining student standing in an accredited program.

Qualifications

• Must have completed Medical-Surgical rotation in accredited nursing program.
• Must maintain good standing status in accredited nursing program.
• RN student entering final semester/year eligible for externship.

Responsibilities

• Rotate through units per preceptor schedule (2×4‑week experiences).
• 1:1 RN preceptor for guidance throughout externship.
• Complete a paid clinical externship with a minimum 36 hours per week commitment.
• Rotating shifts based on preceptor schedule.
