Job summary

WellSpan Health is offering a Summer 2027 Nurse Externship at Ephrata Hospital in Ephrata, PA. The program runs May 17, 2027 through July 10, 2027, with two 4-week unit experiences and a minimum 36-hour weekly commitment.

Externs will rotate through Surgical, Medical, ED, ICU, Progress Care IMCU, and Operating Room units under a 1:1 RN preceptor. Open to RN students entering final year, with requirements including completion of medical-surgical rotation and good standing in their nursing program.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED, currently enrolled in approved nursing program with completion of two clinical semesters.
• HS Diploma or GED, enrollment in accredited BSN program preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire.
• Completion of at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation prior to Summer Externship.
• Must be passing in accredited program prior to Summer Externship.

Responsibilities

• Provide information needed by the registered nurse to coordinate care and discharge planning.
• Provide general nursing and personal care assistance (bathing, dressing, eating, bathing, etc.).
• Assist in patient transportation for tests and procedures.
• Monitor patient conditions and report changes to staff.
• Record vital signs and document results.
• Perform selected tasks per Nurse Extern checklist and setup equipment.
• Perform EKGs and Point-of-Care testing as needed.
• Attend to supplies, restock rooms, and keep units stocked.
