Job summary

UPMC Central PA is offering an accelerated, full-time Medical Assistant Trainee Program for current students. Selected candidates will enroll in a paid MA course with weekly clinical rotations, didactic modules, and a cost-free MA certification exam.

An externship at a UPMC Central PA outpatient clinic is included. Participants commit to 40 hours per week for 4 months plus required class time, and must maintain full-time employment with UPMC Health Services for at least 18 months after

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Current enrollment in a Medical Assistant training program is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient records in compliance with HIPAA and regulations.
• Obtain lab and x-ray reports, schedule appointments, verify insurance, and prepare charts.
• Prepare patient rooms and maintain infection control; restock supplies.
• Check schedules and organize patient flow; assist patients with transfers and exams.
• Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic lab procedures; document results.
• Comply with OSHA, CLIA, PA Dept of Health requirements and company policies.
• Other duties as assigned.
