Job summary

James Hardie Building Products Inc. is seeking an Engineering Intern for Continuous Improvement in Tacoma, WA.

This 12-week paid internship offers hands-on experience in Lean manufacturing, standard work, and operational excellence with mentoring and meaningful projects. You will help develop, standardize HMOS processes, create training materials, and collaborate with production and quality teams to reduce waste and improve workflows.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a bachelor’s program in a relevant discipline with expected graduation between 2027 and 2029.
• Strong academic performance, minimum GPA 3.0.
• Available to work full-time for 12 weeks in Summer 2027.

Responsibilities

• Develop, revise, and standardize operating procedures, standard work documents, OPLs, and training materials.
• Support HMOS implementation activities including Daily Management Systems and audits.
• Conduct process observations, data collection, and workflow analysis to identify improvement opportunities.
• Partner with production, maintenance, quality, and operations teams to improve process consistency and reduce waste.
• Lead and complete a summer capstone project focused on HMOS or operational effectiveness.
