Job summary

PennWest is seeking an Embedded Course Mentor for ENGL 1100. This paid student position places you in first-year writing sections to provide supportive, relational mentoring to new college writers.

You will attend 2–3 class meetings per week (roughly 3 hours), run weekly office hours, help students plan assignments, and connect them with campus resources such as the Writing Center. Summer training and ongoing checks are required.

Qualifications

• GPA 3.0 or higher required.
• Must have completed ENGL 1100 and ENGL 1200 with a B or higher.
• Sophomore status in Fall 2026 required.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills.

Responsibilities

• Attend assigned ENGL 1100 section regularly (2–3 meetings per week).
• Facilitate class activities.
• Hold weekly office hours for individual and small group support.
• Guide students in developing effective study habits and time management.
• Connect students with campus resources (e.g., Writing Center).
• Communicate with course instructor and mentoring staff.
• Participate in summer training and semester check-ins.
