PennWest is seeking an Embedded Course Mentor for ENGL 1100. This paid student position places you in first-year writing sections to provide supportive, relational mentoring to new college writers.
You will attend 2–3 class meetings per week (roughly 3 hours), run weekly office hours, help students plan assignments, and connect them with campus resources such as the Writing Center. Summer training and ongoing checks are required.

Pay Rate: $10.00/hour
Weekly Commitment: 6–8 hours
Start Date: Fall 2026 (with asynchronous D2L training and Zoom training during summer 2026---approx. 5 hours total)
ENGL 1100 Embedded Course Mentors (ECM) are student leaders embedded within first-year composition courses to support new college students in their transition to college-level writing and academic expectations. Unlike traditional tutoring, peer mentoring is built on consistent, relational, and contextual support.
Peer Mentors attend class alongside their assigned section of ENGL 1100 and serve as accessible resources for students both during and outside of class. Through one-on-one or small group sessions, mentors help students manage assignments, apply writing concepts, reflect on academic progress, and develop effective writing habits.
