Job Title: Packaging Operator
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Pay range: $24 - 25/hr
Location: St. Louis, MO
Work Type: Onsite, Hours are 6 am - 6 pm on the same rotating 2-week schedule as our MFG Techs. (Week 1 – Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday / Week 2 – Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday).
Essential Job Functions:
The Packaging Operator provides training and operational support to the department
Maintains a high-quality work environment by sharing knowledge and experiences so team members are motivated to perform at their highest level
Keeps supervisor informed of potential and/or existing concerns
Leads by example in performing core packaging job elements by meeting or exceeding performance expectations, following health and safety guidelines, job accuracy, and following company and regulatory requirements.
Participates in and supports the development and implementation of process improvement projects and leads test cycles to challenge current practices, improve system efficiency, enhance customer service, and maintain compliance
Troubleshoot problems within the department
Demonstrates working knowledge of department operating systems.
Maintains orders, work areas, and stock locations in a safe, clean, and organized manner.
Reports unsafe or potentially unsafe hazards to any member of management
Miscellaneous duties and tasks as assigned
Exemplary attendance and adherence to schedule
Key Accountabilities:
The Packaging Operator supports operational functions, provides technical guidance, assists with the implementation of improvements, and works on departmental projects in order to ensure department and corporate objectives are satisfied.
Required Education:
HS Diploma or equivalent
Desirable Education:
High school course work in chemistry or 6 months of chemistry-related work experience
Work Experience:
2-4 years of packaging experience preferred but not required.
Job-Specific Competencies & Skills:
Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to operate powered industrial equipment and perform hand weighing operations. Also able to set up and run drum massager, delumper, filling machine, capper, automated labeler, and other ergonomic equipment.
Knowledge of product flow throughout the packaging process.
Ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner with all levels of staff, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work in a group setting.
Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.
Ability to work quickly and adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated problem-solving and team-building skills with the ability to work with a diverse group of people.
Environmental Conditions:
General Office Environment:
The noise level in the office environment is generally quiet.
Packaging Environment:
Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
Is regularly required to wear appropriate protective gear (hard hats, glasses/goggles, chemical resistant suits, gloves, safety shoes, respirator) and other personal protection equipment "PPE” to protect themselves from toxic or corrosive chemicals in the forms of liquids, solids, vapors or airborne particles.
The work area may occasionally be wet, humid, abnormally hot, or cold.
Physical Requirements:
If performing office duties:
The employee is required to sit, stand, hear, and use hands to operate all office equipment.
Employees must view computer monitors for long periods of time.
Vision requirements are close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Employees occasionally will be required to lift, generally no more than 55 pounds.
If performing warehouse/distribution duties:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach above the shoulder, stoop, kneel, twist, or crouch for long periods of time.
The employee must be able to talk, hear, taste, and smell.
The employee must regularly lift 55 pounds and/or move 300+ pounds without additional employee assistance.
Employees may be required to move more than 300+ pounds with assistance.
Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Regularly uses manufacturing equipment, powered industrial equipment, phones, computers, computer monitors, and all office/laboratory equipment.
