Job summary

Eastwood Homes in Charlotte, NC seeks a Builder Assistant to support the assigned Builder and community through a six- to twelve-month term. You will gain exposure to estimating, scheduling, and field operations while learning Eastwood Homes’ policies and procedures.

You will collaborate with teams, read architectural plans, follow safety guidelines, and help coordinate inspections and vendor work to ensure on-time, quality home construction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline preferred
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and customer service skills
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and background screening

Responsibilities

  • Support activities of the assigned Builder and community.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Eastwood Homes’ policies and procedures. They include human resources, safety and Eastwood operational policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate basic working knowledge of the tools required to build a home: architectural plans, site development plans, change orders, vendor scopes, and warranty specifications.
  • Coordinate pre-construction activities, start releases, scheduling, and job status updates; ensure safety inspections and quality checks.

Basic Functions

The Builder Assistant position functions as a support role for an assigned Builder while developing the skills necessary to earn aBuilderposition.The term of this position is designed to be six to twelve months. The Builder Assistantis responsible forfacilitatingvarious tasks and/or processes delegated by their Builder and EastwoodHomes’management.

Scopeand Decision Making
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication; initiative; follow-up; leadership; planning and organization skills throughpreviousworkactivity.
  • Demonstrateproficiencyinuseof office equipment.
  • Demonstrate skill in reading and interpretation of technical documents.
  • Manage tight deadlines, promptly addressing changes without disrupting schedules, and managing high work volumes with minimal direct supervision.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support activities of the assigned Builderand community.
  • Demonstrate within specified development timelines a basic working knowledge of Eastwood Homes’ policies and procedures.These include but are not limited to humanresource, safety and Eastwood operational policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate within specified development timelines a working knowledge of the basic toolsrequiredto build a home.These tools include but are not limited to architectural plans; typical details; site development plans and specifications; component drawings, cut sheets and details; customer selection sheets; series specifications; change orders; vendor scopes of work; geo-technical reports; model energy calculations and warranty specifications.
  • Demonstrate within specified development timelines a basic working knowledge of Eastwood Homes’ administrative duties.These activities include but are not limited to pre-screening start releases;short- and long-rangescheduling; job status updates; foundation and framing checklists; safety inspections and featured home checklists; lot, house and warning signage and posted customer selections and change orders.
  • Demonstrate within specified development timelines a basic working knowledge of Eastwood Homes’ structured internal and external customer interactions.These activities include but are not limited to customer pre-construction, pre-drywall, pre-settlement, pre-close and follow-up orientations; weekly community meetings with assigned New Home Specialist and weekly Homebuildingmeetingspeers and management.
  • Demonstrate with specified development timelinesproficiencyin aligning trades inappropriate sequenceand assemble a working long range, shortrangeand two-week schedule for a prescribed number of homes in a community.
  • Consistently use the building checklist throughout every phase of construction to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Conduct a thorough pre-inspection of all start packages before accepting a project, verifying the accuracy and completeness of construction plans, purchase orders, homeowner selections, change orders, and all related project documentation.

Working Conditions
  • Workweek:Mondaythrough Friday; Saturdays if workloadrequires.
  • Minimumworking hours: 7:30 a.m. to4:30 p.m.
  • Work truck: Dependabletransportation that is to beutilized, as required, to haul materials or laborin order tocomplete necessary job functions.
  • Physical Capacity:Frequently required to bend, stoop, crawl, squat, kneel, stand, twist, push and pull(often while carrying or lifting)
  • Lifting: Lifting may be required on a dailybasis;including oversized items (weights may reach 100 pounds).
  • Weather: Outdoor climates may require each Builder to work in extreme temperatures and during various forms of precipitation.
  • Dress: Proper business attire and personal hygiene (as specified in the employee handbook) requiredrepresentingcompanyin a professional manner.
  • Stress: Situations may exist on a frequent basis that requires tolerances for stress as well asappropriate stressmanagement techniques to beutilized.
  • Travel: May berequiredto travel to different communities or jobsites daily.
